Why Has Palm Springs Been the Presidents Destination for Decades ?



Since the 1950s  Presidents have visited, golfed and relaxed in the Palm Springs area . Starting with President Eisenhower who started frequenting Palm Springs in the 1950s and made several trips whereby the house he stayed in at Smoketree Ranch was dubbed  'the Western White House', and later he lived in Eldorado Country Club  in Indian Wells.

President Kennedy was no stranger to Palm Springs , a lot was written about it . President Nixon visited and it is said that VP Spiro  Agnew  lived in the Desert after leaving office.

 President Ford made Rancho Mirage his home in Thunderbird Country Club until his passing. President Bush Sr visited and golfed and so did  President Reagan

President Clinton  frequented the Desert and for years golfed and was involved in the Humana Challenge in La Quinta .

  President Obama made over 5 trips to the Desert , and will be coming back after he leaves office, and it has been rumored that he bought or planning to buy or build a home in Rancho Mirage where he usually stays in Thunderbird Heights. 

Since it was announced that President Obama's first stop after leaving office is Palm Springs , I noticed a surge in searches on my website for all the Thunderbird communities.  

So WHAT IS IT that brought and still attracts Presidents to our Desert you might ask . Is it golf and sunshine or is there more to it ?

Yes , the golf and sunshine attracts them the first time, then they get "sand in their shoes" according to a Tribal saying. The calmness of our Desert and sense of belonging , the laissez faire lifestyle,   the serenity of the purple skies  following the gorgeous sunsets brings them back again and again.



 If you have never visited the Desert , you should, and if you have then you already know what I am talking about.

We moved from Los Angeles 14 years ago after we got 'sand in our shoes' during our visits to the Palm springs area , and soon after I decided to help others explore the Desert and its lifestyle and joined the real Estate industry , and the rest is history .
